La Loteria is Mexican Bingo, a staple at all Mexican parties and gatherings. The Public Library of Hillsboro, Shute Park Branch, requested that the game be remade for the grand reopening of the library.
The traditional rendition has a few cards and illustrations that are not family friendly, which the Hillsboro Public Library wanted to phase out. In addition, given the split demographic of library users, largely Latino and Caucasian, it was recommended that the game be made bilingual. This was an opportunity to bridge two cultures, creating an inclusive environment and teaching children and adults a foreign language.
